The grass is greener on the other side of the fence

Lupasin näyttää teille miltä tuunaamani kissanruohon kasvatusalusta näyttää ruohojen kera. 

Valitettavasti ruoho ei tällä kertaa kasvanut kovin hyvin.

 Kuten jo linkatussa postauksessa taisinkin mainita, englanniksi tosin, että kasvatusalustassa on pieniä suunnitteluvirheitä ja se alkaa helposti keräämään itseensä jonkinsortin öttiäisiä ja ylimääräistä kasvustoa ilman salaojitusta.

Tässäpä siis esimerkki kuinka voit salaojittaa.  

Kuvat eivät valitettavasti ole parhaimmasta päästä, koska Suomessa on turhan pimeää kuvata iltasella.

Ensiksi siis laitat jotain soraa/hiekkaa/kiviä pohjalle. Sen päälle sanomalehteä tai serlaa, jonka tehtävä on päästää vesi läpi, mutta pitää mullat erillään. Ei siis mitään megakerrosta.

Sitten turpeet/mullat (mitä lienevätkään) ja siemenet. Tällä kertaa purkkiin valikoitui Maukas -kissanruoho.

Parempia ruohovaihtoehtoja otetaan vastaan.

As I did mention earlier, the bowl is really easy to have mold and bugs in it if you don't underdrain or aren't careful with the watering. If you've never underdrained (isn't there a better word for this?!), here's an example how to do it. I apologize for the poor photo quality; it's dark in Finland. 

First put a layer of stones/gravel at the bottom of your bowl. Cover it with a sheet of newspaper or paper towel. This is to prevent the gravel and the soil from mixing up, but the water should go through, so no thick layer is needed. After that, you just add the soil and the seeds. I used a readymade package which includes the soil and the seeds, but you can also buy them separately.

Yeah, that's about it. :) Just water the seeds and in a couple of days, you'll have grass for your cat. Hopefully it'll grow better than mine did. 

Be careful though, not all grasses that are directed to cats are actually good for them.
